| Exclusive: Diary 2 to Begin Shooting in September |
| | My good friend Uncle Creepy over at www.dreadcentral.com sent me this exclusive info on the newest installment to George Romero's DEAD series and it is well anticipated news !! | | | | " You know it's a good day to be a zombie fan when you learn from some well placed friends that your favorite walking dead director is getting set to start production on yet another entry into his classic series! Ah yes, kids, Diary of the Dead 2 is all but on its way!
News rumbling began after Romero, who was scheduled to appear at this weekend's Motor City Nightmares show in Novi, Michigan, had to cancel his appearance, citing "work related issues" as the reason for his absence. A couple of phone calls later, Dread Central learned that George has to attend several meetings about Diary 2 which have the project significantly hitting the fast track. So significantly that we got the word it's 99.9% a go for the film to start production this September. | | | | Oh happy day! Attendees of the Motor City Nightmares show, though disappointed, have gotten one hell of a substitute for Romero that comes in the form of Tobe Hooper! Tobe (who rarely makes it out for shows) has landed in Michigan and will be there to greet fans the entire weekend. If you're in the area, this is a show you just don't want to miss. Keep it here for more on the Diary of the Dead sequel as we get it." - UNCLE CREEPY | |

| Great Video Interview with George at HORROR.COM |
Courtesy-Horror.com 02-14-2008
George Romero. Need we say more? Ok, we will, but just a little. The Supreme Leader (that means George) of the cult of Zombie (too many members to name here) has a new movie coming out on DVD May 20th - Diary of the Dead. The new film is the fifth installment of his zombie series, which started out in 1968 with the legendary Night of the Living Dead. With "Diary", Romero returns to his roots a bit (lower budget), but stays super modern as well (hand held video, etc.) Check it out here

| DC & DIARY-a review |
As a good Romero fan, being aware of the release date for Diary, I checked the web for theater time and place. Of course the nearest was down in Cambridge, a mere 49 mile trip into Boston. The opening of the film was interesting and what caught me off gaurd was the narration. The earliest scenes seemed uneventful but established our cast. A group of film students making their own mummy film. Odd broadcasts about rising dead on the radio & news..... Unlike the comparisons to CLOVERFIELD, these kids were using decent equipment and there were no grainy, fuzzy, shakey shots... 35 mm all the way, and it does remind you that you're watching a movie. As things take off we get some great special effects as would be expected in a Romero "DEAD" film, and some interesting deaths....very creative. The group is determined to get to Debra's home the female lead played by Michelle Morgan. We do see some familiar faces too "Tony", played by Shawn Roberts also appeared in LAND OF THE DEAD, along with Boyd Banks, many guest Newscaster voices and even ...shall I say, a cameo from ......naaah go see it. The film has a great pace and of course a political overtone, but not so much political as a look at the truth of our current state of mind as the information highway plugs along...detached & callus to tragedy until it bites you... and it bites many in DIARY...oh yes... MANY. Some notable scenes include the hospital, the Amish farmhouse and Ridley's (Philip Riccio) garden...My favorite line in the film happens there and it seems to Georges way of making a point...while Tracy (Amy Ciupak Lalonde) is being chased by a deceased member of their cast, Jason (Joshua Close) shouts " See...I told you dead things move slow!" which I took right away as a comment from George as a way to re-claim the genre he created. It was also established that ANYONE who dies will re-animate, and being bitten by one of these things will only speed the process. Over all, I was happy to drive the distance, slap down my $7.50 and go for a ride with this group. The cast was talented, the film was smart, the gore was tasty, and I left with a case of the creeps...what more could want from George Romero ???

| Romero teams with Pa. writer for horror anthology |

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The creator of "Night of the Living Dead" will partner with a writer-actor from western Pennsylvania to film a horror anthology in Fayette County. Pittsburgh-based filmmaker George A. Romero is collaborating with Jeff Monahan to make "George A. Romero Presents ... Deadtime Stories." "I've been working on a couple of different projects with George," said Monahan, a Connellsville-based actor who appeared in the films "Lone Star" and Romero's "Bruiser."
Each installment of the anthology will consist of three stories and will be suitable for a DVD or cable TV release, Monahan said. A few distributors have expressed interest in the project, he said.
Filming of the first story, "Dust," is scheduled to begin Monday at the Penn State campus in Fayette County, as well as a house and graveyard in Connellsville, Monahan said. "It's wild, crazy and twisted," Monahan said of the story. Monahan said he plans to direct the second story, "On Sabbath Hill," to be shot the following week in Uniontown and at Seton Hill University in Greensburg. He said he is still choosing the third story. The first anthology is to be released in the spring, and if it is successful, Monahan plans to begin shooting the second volume around the same time. He said he expects to film most of the episodes in southwestern Pennsylvania and New York. "We want to keep most of it close to home," he said. Romero is best-known for his "Dead" films: "Night of the Living Dead," "Dawn of the Dead," "Day of the Dead" and "Land of the Dead." His other movies include "The Dark Half," "Monkey Shines" and "Martin."
